Beco carriers have been around since 2005 and was founded by Gabby Cameron, a mum who decided she wanted to make her own baby carrier as she apparently saw flaws in what was available at the time. Beco specialise in baby carriers, and little carriers for children to carry their baby doll, called the Beco Mini. There are two base models in the Beco carriers range, Beco Butterfly 2 and Beco Gemini. We have reviewed these two Beco carriers and provided you with an honest and unbiased view of what we think of them. Each carrier has both pros and cons and has been given a score out of 5.
Beco carriers are known for their 'one-size fits all' philosophy and are all made in the US. With the baby in mind, Beco carriers are usually made out of organic cotton and they come with an instructional DVD made in the US, to make it easier for parents to fit it properly.

Beco Butterfly 2
This baby carrier has a lot of good things going for it. We like the fact that it comes with an infant insert for newborns and a solid head support for the baby, both which are removable. It comes in many different colours and designs and can be worn both on the front and on the back. The Beco Butterfly 2 has soft padded shoulder straps and safety buckles to prevent accidental opening. Beco carriers in general are easily adjusted to accommodate for a growing baby and a padded waist belt which provides lumbar support for the parent. The Beco Butterfly 2 is meant to carry babies between 7-45 lbs (3.5 - 20 kg).
What we don't like about the Beco Butterfly is that is does not have any pockets for storage. When you are on-the-go with your baby, it is always nice to have easily accessible pockets where you can store keys and your wallet. Unfortunately, the Beco Butterfly 2 does not have these. At 9 it is definitely in the high range as far as baby carriers go. However, it is value for money considering you are getting organic cotton, which is considerably more expensive than normal cotton. Also, keep in mind that it has been made in the US, where labour is much more expensive than in China, but the products are usually of a higher quality. So, if you are happy to spend the money and bring your handbag with you, the Beco Butterfly 2 is definitely worth considering. Score 4/5.
Beco Gemini
As stated earlier, Beco carriers are typically made out of organic cotton and the same goes for the Beco Gemini. The Beco Gemini has the same foldable head rest and adjustable base as the Beco Butterfly 2. It is a 4 in 1 carrier, meaning that it can be worn 4 different ways. Front carry (facing in or out), back carry and hip carry. The Beco Gemini is recommended between 7-35 lbs (3.5-16kg). Apart from that it has all the same features as the Beco Butterfly and cost about less. We are dumbfounded as to why a company such as Beco would have to such similar models for sale. Why not try something a bit different? Anyway, if you have to choose between the two, we would go for the Beco Gemini, simply for the fact that it is more versatile with its 4-in-1 design and cost less. Score 4/5.
All in all, Beco carriers are well-made products that are easy to put on and will last you a long time. We have no problems recommending these carriers to our parents.
