When to Move Your Child Into a Booster Car Seat

A long time ago, when the child was done with their infant car seat, they were simply allowed to romp around the back seat or they were buckled down using the vehicle seat belt. Both of those options were bad options and that is why there are now booster seats on the market. Many people have complained that this is just another way to rob people of their money for big businesses, but being that a simple booster seat can cost as little as , it is hard to support that argument.

Also, back in the day when there were no booster seat laws, there were not as many vehicles on the road going sixty or seventy miles per hour, and those are just the cars that are going the speed limit, not to mention all of the drivers who use poor judgment. Another thing to consider is that cars today are not made as solid as they were back in the day. Then again, it does not matter how secure the frame of the car is because your child can easily be thrown through the windshield of your car and killed if you do not have him or her properly restrained.

Because of all of this, once your child hits the forty-pound mark or when he or she is too tall for the toddler car seat, it is time for him or her to be moved to a booster seat. If you seat your child in the toddler car seat and his or her headrest above the headrest of the car seat, they need to be moved to a booster seat.

You will find that your child will spend a good few years with the booster seat as you are not allowed to legally place your child under a seat belt without the booster seat until he or she is 80 pounds and at least 4 ft 9 inches tall. Some people will argue that this means that short adults have to use a booster seat. This is not true at all because adults have a bone structure that will be able to handle the full force of the seat belt in the event of a crash. Children have to be extra cautious because if the seat belt is positioned in a slightly wrong manner, the seat belt can cause them a lot of internal damage.

It may be a little frustrating to have to go out and buy yet another form of car seat, but it is for the safety and well being of your child. Not only do you have to worry about the safety of your child, but also if you are caught with your child in the car without a booster seat, you can face large fines.
